Dancing to Ministry Of Sound Classical at Dubai Opera

A couple of nights ago, my brother and I made a late decision to attend Ministry of Sound Classical at Dubai Opera. I had not gone out dancing with my brother or friends for a decade.

I wasn’t sure if I still had the moves, and was happy to find myself moving to the beats of many favourite dance songs from the 1990s, even though I certainly don’t have the same energy.

The crowd was, as expected, mostly Gen Xers and older millennials. I spotted a few Gen Zs who looked like they didn’t know how to dance to this music.

The whole night turned out to be a lot more fun than I expected. More fun was experienced after the concert in the same venue with an after concert/party DJ set thanks to Mark Pickup. He played an awesome dance mix of Christopher Cross’ Ride Like the Wind. Strangely the post concert DJ set wasn't mentioned in the official programme.

When Ministry of Sound musicians left the stage, people started making their way out, and at first my brother and I decided to wait till the rush died down, but then we started hearing music and told him I’m not leaving till the music stops. The DJ set lasted for another hour and the real ones, around 200-300 of us remained on the dance floor.

During this set, I hardly saw anyone taking selfies or filming everything, and I asked my brother, “What year is this?” as I twirled on the dance floor.

I was so happy dancing with my brother, people watching and having a good laugh like we used to many, many years on the dance floor.

These are a few pictures I took with my phone, mostly of the stage lights, and one that is a shadow of my brother and I.

If you are not familiar with Ministry of Sound Classical, I found these clips from previous concerts elsewhere.
