The Culturist was launched in 2009 by Hind Mezaina. Based in Dubai, the blog features all things culture-worthy in Dubai and beyond, with a special interest in film, music, photography and travel.

The Culturist Film Club, an offshoot of this blog, initially started as an online film club between April - June 2020, during the COVID-19 lockdown, and in 2022 launched as an in-person event. It has been hosted at various cultural venues across Dubai including Alliance Francaise, Jameel Arts Centre and Kutubna Cultural Center. The screenings include introductions, followed by discussions with the audience, and occasionally with invited guest speakers. You can see all upcoming and past screenings here.

Hind Mezaina is an artist, writer and film curator from Dubai. Working primarily in analogue photography and lately with moving image, her practice delves into themes of collective memory, the notion of heritage, and depictions of the UAE in the media.
