Film Screenings at Louvre Abu Dhabi - Furusiyya: The Art of Chivalry between East and West

I’ve programmed two films for Louvre Abu Dhabi, to screen during its latest exhibition Furusiyya: The Art of Chivalry between East and West.

This unique exhibition explores the ancient roots of chivalry as well as the role of a knight in combat and the different chivalric codes that developed around the world, from Iraq and Syria in the East, to France and Spain in the West.

The screenings are free to attend. You can register here, or collect a free ticket at the museum’s ticket desk.

Aisholopan, a 13-year-old girl, trains to be the first female in twelve generations of her Kazakh family to become an eagle hunter. Her father believes that a girl can do anything a boy can, as long as she’s determined. She rises to the pinnacle of a centuries-old tradition.

Set in the breathtaking Mongolian plains, the film features awe-inspiring cinematography, giving this tale of a young girl’s quest the drama of an epic narrative film.

The debut from Asif Kapadia, best known for his award-winning films Senna and Amy, the film stars renowned Indian actor Irfan Khan (The Lunchbox, Life Of Pi). A visually stunning epic about a man torn between the path of peace and war. Lafcadia is the leader of a group of warriors but he renounces his violent ways and sets off on a journey to find his home village in the mountains – and to find, and escape, his former self.
