A helping hand

Photos from 7 Days

This post is a call for help to anyone reading this and living in the United Arab Emirates. 7 Days reported a few days ago that 400 labourers have been abandoned by their employer because it's gone out of business. The labourers who have not been paid for many months now have money to feed themselves, send money to their families back home and are struggling to survive.

There are a few ways we can help, so please read on and hope you can donate whatever you can.

One of my photography friends, Ivana Maglione, is collecting donations, so please contact her directly and donate as little or as much as you can.

Care Packages for Labourers - a group of volunteers that regulalry organise meetings to put together packages of donated goods and deliver them to the various labour camps - will meet on 2nd July at Shelter to collect donated goods and money. They recommend you donate the following goods which will useful to the labourers:

Clothes (t-shirts, shirts, dhotis)
Toiletries (soaps, toothbrushes, toothpastes, prickly heat powder, combs)
Towels

The aim is to create 400 bundles as consistent as possible to avoid fights breaking out amongst the labourers. All money donations will be divided equally into 400 envelopes. Once the packages are made, the volunteers will leave Shelter and head straight to the camp. Each man will receive a Care Package and an envelope.
