Video Essay by Ariel Avissar - Lord of the Flies

Lord of the Flies by William Golding is one of the few literature books I still remember from my school days. The film version by Harry Hook was released in 1990 so I watched it after I graduated from school.

This video essay by Ariel Avissar is about his experience watching the film at school as a 9 year old and how the banality of evil was the scariest part of the film for him, evil that’s not hiding in the dark, but in plain sight. It’s haunting and made me wonder how I would have felt if I watched it at his age too.
