Interview with Ana Lily Amirpour

Ana Lily Amirpour’s latest film Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon was released in cinemas across the UAE on September 29.

I was invited to interview Amirpour (via Zoom) at Cinema Akil after screening the film on October 1, and I asked for the audio to be recorded for the podcast Tea with Culture that I co-run with Wael Hattar.

In case you missed it, I’m sharing it here too:

Mona Lisa and the Blood Moon is a fantasy adventure about a girl with unusual and dangerous powers who escapes from a mental asylum and tries to make it on her own in New Orleans. We discuss the film, how it relates to current politics, freedom, kindness, sleep, dreams, and dance music.
