Abu Dhabi Film Festival 2014 Diary - Day 4

Winter Sleep

Winter Sleep

Today could be described as a day of heavy watching at the Abu Dhabi Film Festival. Watched three intense films, all good, but my favourite was Winter Sleep and could possibly be my favourite film of the year.

Timbuktu

A pertinent film considering the awfulness happening in name of religion. Beautifully filmed, but also a movie that leaves you feeling heavy sadness. One scene that took my breath away, the boys playing football without the football. Left me speechless.

Entangled

You can always count on a Korean film to leave you squirming in your seat waiting for something terrible to happen on screen. And Entangled delivered just that. Watching the family in this Korean film descending psychologically and emotionally was quite uncomfortable to watch.

Winter Sleep

I absolutely loved this film. Running at 196 minutes long, with a lot of dialogue, and by a lot, I mean A LOT, this film isn't everyone's cup of tea. I know of people who didn't like it. But I found it thought provoking, poking at the viewer's

consciousness,

especially where it hurts. One of the few films where I needed to be by myself after watching it.
