One Small Step

One Small Step, a play that was a huge hit at the 2008 and 2009 Edinburgh Fringe Festivals, is coming to DUCTAC (Dubai Community Theatre and Arts Centre) next week.

It tells the story of one of the most exciting adventures of the 20th century - the space race. The two extraordinary actors, Robin Hemmings and Oliver Millingham will take us on this journey to the moon and back by bringing to life about 41 characters in a brilliantly inventive portrayal of the space race using household objects like buckets, lamps and cardboard boxes in fabulously inventive ways.

Produced by Oxford Playhouse and directed by Toby Hulse,  the play covers all the extraordinary space events ranging from the first dog in space to man landing on the moon - and is full of emotion, intense moments, epic achievements and humour, from beginning to triumphant end.

Time Out London described One Small Step as ‘a life-affirmingly brilliant piece of theatre’ and it has thrilled audiences worldwide and has earned rave reviews from The Sunday Times, The Telegraph and The Scotsman, among others. It was subsequently chosen to be part of the British Council Showcase, a biennially selected collection of cutting edge British work.

I am really looking forward to this. Not only do I love small plays like this, but the space age was a period  that captured everyone's imagination and I don't think the world has experienced anything like it since. I am very curious to see how this period will be interpreted on stage with only two actors.
